Dear Friend:
On behalf of Grassroots Resources, Inc., let me introduce myself. My
name is Elmer M. Savilla. You may remember me through the publication of
America's Eagle Magazine. I am a Native American person from the Quechan
Indian Nation, who has lived and worked in the center of government, Washington,
DC, for over 20 years as an advocate for grassroots people and as a writer/journalist
focusing on the workings of government and its agencies, especially in
the fields of American Indian affairs and in environmental issues. My last
major endeavor was to write and publish America's Eagle Magazine for three
years. The last issue was printed in June of 1996.
Since then, I have received many letters of encouragement to resume
publication. People have said that America's Eagle Magazine contained a
wealth of information on Native American affairs, congressional legislation,
the environment, and nuclear and chemical contamination, et cetera, which
was not found in any other publication. That was the purpose of the magazine,
to fill in the blanks between the lines of mainstream newspapers and to
tell you the story behind the headlines. During its three year stint, America's
Eagle Magazine was continually reporting stories weeks ahead of the mainstream
papers.
America's Eagle Magazine will be published again, but only with your
help. I am sure that you also want it to resume where it left off. Today,
there are many, many issues in which the general public is left completely
in the dark. For instance, you may have read of the FBI report on the downing
of TWA Flight 800. The report said in part that "a Navy missile"
did not hit the plane. What is important is what was not said. Not one
report mentioned other possibilities.
Three years ago America's Eagle Magazine reported on the effects on
humans and aircraft from new breeds of strong radar, and then we had a
story on powerful electro-magnetic beams used to bring down high-flying
missiles. To date, at least three reported crashes of commercial airliners
have no reported cause in spite of extensive investigation. Yet they all veered
out of control in the same manner - a sudden wing-over then into a swift
death dive.
Today, how much of the truth do you really know about efforts to clean
up our environment? What is the truth about the safety and the economics
of nuclear power plants? Is the president really an environmental president?
How many Indian people realize the effects that recent legislation and
Supreme Court decisions will have on their future? Today we must all think
about tomorrow. It's not enough just to read the headlines, because how
do you know if what Congress and the federal agencies is telling you is
true if you only hear what they want you to hear?
In response to requests to resume our reporting, I have formed a non-profit
organization called Grassroots Resources, Inc. One of its major goals would
be to investigate the issues of concern in the Americas and to publish
this information to help educate citizens, the grassroots people of the
Americas, about the activities and doings of those who may affect their
daily lives or their future.
Two topics which are near ready for publication is 1) The Truth About
US involvement In Central American Efforts To Suppress Protests Of Native
People.; and 2) US Treaties With Indian Nations which is about how US
judicial process and legislation has been altered to justify the breaking
of treaty terms and other crimes.
In addition to publication of books of information like those above,
we also plan to regularly publish America's Eagle Magazine on a monthly
basis as we did before. But as I said, WE NEED YOUR HELP.
I told you of the formation of Grassroots Resources, Inc., (GRI) a
non-profit organization. To begin the operations of GRI, I am first asking
past subscribers of America's Eagle Magazine--like yourself--to contribute
to the startup of GRI so that it can make a difference in the lives of
many people. There are still too many people of all races who are ignorant
(not dumb, they are just not told or informed) of issues which may affect
the health or environment of their communities. Perilous times are ahead
for all of us as the pollution of our waterways continues. Our mountains
and deserts are threatened by a growing stockpile of radioactive waste
that must be stored somewhere. Look around you --- Is there any other national
magazine or newspaper which focuses on the important environmental basic
issues? The answer is no. That's why you and the rest of the nation need
America's Eagle Magazine!
I am asking you to help GRL to be an important part of the flow of
information to citizens everywhere. Won't you join with us in helping each
other by making a contribution of any amount today? Of course, all contributions
to GRL are tax deductible, so plan ahead and save on your taxes in April,
1998. Our startup costs are for the usual necessities, office rent and
supplies, electric, fax and telephone, copy services and printing, postage,
etc. Few pieces of equipment will be needed, because we already have computers
and peripherals needed to produce America's Eagle Magazine and to prepare
books and newsletters for printing.
If you liked America's Eagle before, you will love it in its new form.
Please contribute to our startup today. I am enclosing a form to be used
for your generous contribution. We and the poor people of the country will
thank you immensely. We appreciate your support in the past.
